Russia opens flights to two more Egyptian airports

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) is launching air service to two more Egyptian airports, Borg El Arab and El Alamein, the regulator announced.

"Two more Egyptian airports are now accessible for direct flights from Russia. Following a directive from the Transport Ministry, Rosaviatsia is opening air traffic to Borg El Arab and El Alamein," the agency said in a statement.

The statement specified that both airports are located on Egypt's Mediterranean coast. Rosaviatsia has notified domestic carriers that they may apply for permits to operate scheduled flights to Borg El Arab and El Alamein. The regulator is also prepared to review applications for charter flights to these destinations. Additionally, the Egyptian Embassy has been requested to notify the country's relevant authorities and airlines.

The Transport Ministry and Rosaviatsia continue to cooperate with Egyptian counterparts to expand air travel. Currently, flights from Russia operate to Cairo, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh. Aeroflot and Rossiya Airlines serve 21 routes, while five Egyptian carriers account for another 32 destinations.

Rosaviatsia has already received applications from Egyptian airline Air Cairo to operate one-time, non-scheduled flights on the El Alamein-Moscow route starting August 15.
