Aeroflot could transport up to 230,000 additional passengers through cabin reconfiguration on 29 aircraft

As part of measures to improve the accessibility of air travel and standardize aircraft interiors, Aeroflot will reconfigure the cabins of 29 Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320ceo aircraft. The seating capacity of the aircraft will be increased by reducing the number of Business Class seats and increasing the number of Economy Class seats.

As a result of the reconfiguration, 22 of the airline’s 37 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, currently configured to carry 158 passengers (20 in Business Class and 138 in Economy Class), will receive a new cabin layout with 162 seats (12 in Business Class and 150 in Economy Class). On the remaining 15 aircraft of this type, the 158-seat configuration will be retained. These aircraft will be operated on routes with increased demand for premium-class service.

On seven Airbus A320ceo aircraft, the cabin configuration will change from 140 seats (20 in Business Class and 120 in Economy Class) to 158 seats (8 in Business Class and 150 in Economy Class). As a result, Aeroflot’s entire Airbus A320ceo fleet will have a uniform cabin configuration for 158 passengers.

Overall, the seating capacity of Aeroflot’s narrow-body fleet will increase by 214 seats (+1.5%). In total, thanks to the new cabin layout, the airline will be able to transport up to 230,000 additional passengers annually.

For the reconfiguration, the airline will use certified seats that comply with Aeroflot’s branded colors while preserving the identity of each aircraft cabin. At the same time, seat pitch in all classes of service will remain within the airline’s standards.

The reconfiguration is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2026. Currently, six aircraft have already been modified. The work is being carried out by Aeroflot Technics, the airline’s subsidiary maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider.
