The services have worked out an algorithm of actions in the event that a patient with suspected cholera is detected on board.
The Interregional Office of Rospotrebnadzor for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, together with the operator of Pulkovo Airport, the Northern Capital Gateway Company, Nordwind Airlines and officials from state control bodies, conducted scheduled annual exercises on the airport premises.
The purpose of the exercise is to practice primary anti-epidemic measures when a passenger with symptoms of a disease requiring sanitary protection measures is identified on board an aircraft.
According to the legend of the exercise, a passenger with signs of acute intestinal disorder was found on board the plane flying from Phuket to St. Petersburg. The first to arrive at the aircraft were specialists from the sanitary and quarantine point of the Rospotrebnadzor administration, airport doctors, as well as customs and border service employees.
The main objective of the operational measures was to localize and eliminate the source of the infectious disease.
After examining the patient and collecting anamnesis, a preliminary diagnosis was made - cholera. After the evacuation of the sick passenger, a survey, questionnaire and temperature measurement of the remaining passengers and crew members were conducted to identify contacts. A set of disinfection measures was also carried out.
The exercises allowed specialists to practice their practical skills, check the warning and communication systems, and assess the organization of medical care in emergency situations. The events held confirmed the coherence of the interaction of all participants in the process.
