Aeroflot will traditionally serve as the general and organizational partner of the Chess Federation of Russia for the 20th anniversary edition of the Aeroflot Open tournament. This legendary International chess event will take place in Moscow from February 28 to March 7 at The Carlton, Moscow hotel.
Aeroflot Open has been held since 2002. In 2004, it was included in the Guinness Book as the biggest chess tournament in the world. The annual competition was suspend in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In March of 2024, with Aeroflot's support, the festival was revived in a new format. For the first time, not only famous grandmasters but also young players participated. The main tournament gathered over 140 chess players from 12 countries, while the Russian Children's Cup stage attracted 329 young talents. The winner of the main event was Iranian Grandmaster Amin Tabatabaei.
Further details about the competition will be published later.
