Russian state space corporation Roscosmos is determined not to lose working relations with NASA, Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov said.

"It is deplorable that what has been achieved since the period of detente, since the Soyuz-Apollo spaceflight in 1975 is being reduced to zero today," he told students at the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga.

"We, both sides, and you can take it from me - as I meet with colleagues from NASA, would hate to lose this cooperation. Naturally, we will spare no effort to continue it as long as possible because it contributes to space exploration globally," he stressed.

The first module of the International Space Station (ISS) - the Russian Zarya cargo module - was put in orbit in 1998. Two years later, the first long-term mission was launched. Ever since, the ISS has always housed orbital missions.

In April 2023, the Russian government extended the operation of the ISS’ Russian segment until 2028. Other ISS project members will continue until 2030.
