Rostec has completed conversion of the Unified Air Traffic Management System centers from foreign to domestic automation systems. The last center in Rostov-on-Don that used foreign solutions for its operations has switched to Russian systems developed by Azimuth. They are now used for flight management over the entire territory of the country.

The Unified Air Traffic Management System (UATMS) was established to ensure safe air space management and is of strategic significance. The system includes 14 regional centers which serve all air routes in Russia with the total length of more than 800,000 km.

“Rostov air traffic management center, which provides services to the entire south of Russia, was the last one where we together with our partners implemented full import substitution. In terms of specifications, our equipment and software are better than foreign products and avoid further dependence on foreign suppliers. The modular design minimizes error propagation and the probability of full system failure is reduced to zero. This allowed to increase the air space capacity and improve flight safety,” said Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rosteс State Corporation.

The automation system commissioned in Rostov-on-Don includes air traffic management, communications, documentation and training systems. It provided more than 70 workstations for controllers and maintenance personnel and ensured simultaneous tracking of up to 4,000 aircraft.
