Irkut: the return of the SSJ 100 of the Mexican Interjet to Russia is not feasible

Restoring the airworthiness of the SSJ100 aircraft of the Mexican airline Interjet, which are auctioned in Mexico, is almost impossible, and their return to Russia is not feasible. This is reported by Prime with reference to the press service of Irkut.

The Kommersant newspaper wrote on Tuesday that the property of the Mexican airline Interjet, which was declared bankrupt, including spare parts for Airbus and SSJ100, was put up for auction as part of the bankruptcy procedure. The carrier has purchased 22 aircraft from Russia, all of them have lost their airworthiness. So far, only spare parts are being sold, since the SSJ themselves remain pledged to a consortium of banks with the participation of VEB.

"Before the sanctions were imposed, the possibility of returning part of the aircraft or components was theoretically considered, but the bankruptcy procedure of the company did not allow anything to be done practically. After the introduction of sanctions, it is already legally impossible, and given the time that has passed since the termination of operation, the return is technically and legally unworkable," the press service said.

The company added that Irkut specialists were involved in assessing the technical condition of Interjet aircraft in 2019.

"According to estimates of that time, the restoration of airworthiness was possible for some of the aircraft, but the costs were incommensurable with the possible effect of further sale or operation. Currently, according to the estimates of the representatives of the airlines who conducted negotiations and were in Mexico, including receiving limited access to the aircraft, it is almost impossible to restore airworthiness," the press service noted.
