Russian Aviaton » Thursday April 13, 2023 10:07 MSK

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) honors Yuri Gagarin as the first person in space, the agency said on Twitter.

"We celebrate the International Human Space Flight Day, honoring the accomplishments of the first person in space in 1961, and the first launch of the space shuttle in 1981," the tweet reads.

"Next, with NASA’s Artemis, we continue humanity’s progress with Moon and Mars exploration," the agency added.

On April 12, Russia celebrates Cosmonautics Day, which was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 9, 1962, "to mark the first human space flight." In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing April 12 as the International Day of Human Space Flight.
