Air agency chief reveals how many foreign planes remain in Russian registration

More than 180 foreign-made Russian planes are in Russia’s registration, Head of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Neradko said in an interview with RBC daily.

"If we are talking about foreign-manufactured aircraft, more than 180 planes," he said, when asked how many jets had been cleared out of registration on the Bermuda Islands or in Ireland.

All in all, the Russian air transport agency has granted airworthiness certificates to 600 planes out of 647 reregistered aircraft. "The remaining planes are in a state of disrepair, in routine maintenance or undergoing repairs. Their certificates will be provided after their technical state is confirmed," Neradko said.

Earlier, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev said that a total of over 1,000 planes were in operation in Russia.
