Aeroflot is testing out a new program allowing passengers to travel with their pets in a carrier on the seat next to them, according to a statement by its press service.

Aeroflot is the first airline in Russia to offer such a service. It will be offered on a trial basis until March 20, 2024 when the company will make a decision on whether to extend it.

"Aeroflot has begun testing a new service allowing passengers to transport animals in a pet carrier on the seat next to them in the plane cabin. At early stages, this service will be accessible on the air carrier’s own flights until March 20, 2024 after which the airline will decide on introducing the service on a regular basis," the statement reads.

One passenger can transport one container with an animal or a bird in any service class. The price of an extra seat corresponds to the price of a regular adult passenger ticket.

"In accordance with safety rules, the container can be placed only on window seats. The pet should remain inside the container throughout the flight. The total weight of the container together with the animal cannot surpass 15 kg. The maximal dimensions of a hard-sided container are 50х30х30 cm and of a semi-hard-sided one - no more than 50х32х30 cm," the airline explained. That said, the pet should be able to stand up and turn around inside the container. A special handle is required, allowing you to buckle the container with a safety belt.

"Aeroflot is constantly fine-tuning its services for passengers with pets. It is expected that the new service will be in demand among small animal and bird owners and will make air travel with pets more comfortable," the statement noted.
