Aeroflot sums up Krasnoyarsk hub’s first-year operational results and future development plans

Russian Aviaton » Thursday June 2, 2022 19:02 MSK

Aeroflot summed up the results of the first year of the Krasnoyarsk international hub operation launched on 1 June 2022. 285 thousand passengers took advantage of the airline’s own interregional flights. The total passenger traffic of Aeroflot Group airlines reached one million people.

Aeroflot Group’s new hub was established to implement one of the strategic goals set by the government for the air transport industry. The goal was to develop direct regional air services bypassing Moscow. During the first year of the hub operations, Aeroflot launched flights from Krasnoyarsk to the cities of neighbouring Russian regions. Blagoveshchensk, Irkutsk, Sochi, Krasnodar and Simferopol were the most popular destinations for Aeroflot’s passengers in Krasnoyarsk.

CEO of PJSC “Aeroflot” Sergey Alexandrovsky said: “Aeroflot’s hub at D.A. Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk International Airport showed strong year-end results. Within a short period, we achieved our goal. Aeroflot established an efficient regional hub outside of Moscow, which enjoys high passenger demand. A lot has been done, and intensive work in new economic reality awaits us going forward. Our Krasnoyarsk hub will transform according to new challenges. To expand traffic for affordable fares across the regions we decided to transfer flight operations from Krasnoyarsk hub to subsidiary Rossiya Airlines within Aeroflot Group. This will help maximize efficiency of operation of Rossiya Airlines’ fleet including domestically produced SSJ100s and Boeing 737-800s with a single class cabin. Aeroflot Group’s Krasnoyarsk base will surely continue to develop as one of the key passenger and cargo transportation hubs in Russia”.

CEO of Krasnoyarsk International Airport Andrey Metzler said: “Summing up the results of the first year of Aeroflot's Krasnoyarsk hub operations we can see an impressive synergetic effect of our cooperation. We launched 15 new destinations, served one million passengers by all Aeroflot Group’s airlines, operated 4223 flight departures. Residents of the region can now take direct flights to nearby cities, our airport’s operational performance has improved. The results achieved by Aeroflot are a strong incentive for further development of air transportation via Krasnoyarsk which will eventually benefit all domestic air travel”.

Thus, from 6 June, the majority of Aeroflot's own flights from Krasnoyarsk will be transferred to Rossiya Airlines (part of Aeroflot Group). Rossiya Airlines will operate services from Krasnoyarsk to Sochi, Blagoveshchensk, Irkutsk. These routes will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, whose single-class cabin configured with 189 seats will help increase minimum fare proposal. In mid-June, Rossiya Airlines will expand its route network from Krasnoyarsk launching flights to a number of new destinations, to Novy Urengoy as well as to Osh and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s biggest cities. Services to Chita will be added. Domestically produced SuperJet 100 will operate on these routes.

Passengers booked on Aeroflot’s regional flights from Krasnoyarsk on these routes with the departure date after 6 June 2022, will be automatically rebooked on Rossiya Airlines’ flights.
