Headed by Andrey Boginsky, General Director at Irkut and Deputy General Director for Civil Aviation at UAC, delegates from Irkut Corporation visited TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”).

The meeting aimed to discuss joint projects for the development of Russian civil aviation. TsAGI was represented by Kirill Sypalo, Director General at TsAGI and Corresponding Member of the RAS, by First Deputy General Director Aleksandr Medvedsky, and by heads of key areas: aerodynamics, strength, development and operation of test facilities.

Apart from its Head Andrey Boginsky, the Irkut delegation included Aleksey Pakhomenko, First Deputy General Director for Strategy; Andrey Rybin, Director of Regional Aircraft Department; and Andrey Yashutin, Head of Department, Deputy Chief Structural Designer.

In the first part, the guests visited MC-21 wingbox and fin fatigue test facilities, static and fatigue test laboratories with MC-21 and SSJ-100 full-scale aircraft, MC-21 winged fuselage part made with Russian composites, manufacturing machine assembly department, and the T-128 wind tunnel. The guests were also presented the capabilities of TsAGITech and its residents.

The presentation was followed by a joint TsAGI—Irkut discussion of further cooperation areas under civil aircraft projects. According to Andrey Boginsky, the corporation is facing the strategic task of producing SSJ-NEW and MC-21. In turn, it requires increasing production capacities related to machine processing of aircraft parts, and the Corporation offers TsAGI to join the work. Apart from that, the meeting included a discussion of interaction aimed at further development of Russian civil aircraft projects.

‘Today’s meeting was warm and corporate simultaneously. We have refreshed the areas of our partnership with the Irkut Corporation. Under the SSJ-100 and MC-21 integrated programs, TsAGI is ready to work in every area: research into aerodynamics, flight dynamics, strength; implementation of unique measuring systems. In our opinion, the questions of production are also important. Thus, a new impulse has been given to some strategic areas of our partnership today,’ said Kirill Sypalo, Director General of TsAGI, Corresponding Member of the RAS.
