The Danbury prison in the US state of Connecticut, which holds Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, no longer provides him free medicines, his wife Viktoria Yaroshenko told TASS on Tuesday.

"He was given blood pressure pills because he had serious complaints in that area," she said. "Now they have been canceled and it was suggested that he buy them."

"He can’t buy them, because due to the sanctions, even money wiring services have been blocked," she went on to say. "The prison says it’s not their problem."

Yaroshenko asked the Russian embassy in Washington to help with passing some money on to her husband. The diplomats, she said, are working on the case.

In addition, the Russian pilot continues to experience problems with his teeth. "Now he’s going to get out one of his teeth pulled out," she said. "There’s no way to try and cure it."

"They don’t provide medical assistance, there can be no talk of treatment," the pilot’s wife said.

Earlier, the woman told TASS that due to the special military operation in Ukraine, Yaroshenko faced psychological abuse in the prison. Despite the fact that now this topic has faded into the background at the correctional institution, some guards continue to abuse the prisoner from Russia, she said.

Yaroshenko was sentenced in the United States on September 7, 2011 to 20 years in prison. He denies any wrongdoing and considers his arrest a provocation, saying the case was fabricated. The pilot was brought to the United States from Liberia, where he was arrested on May 28, 2010. Undercover officers of the US Drug Enforcement Administration alleged the Russian had an intention to transport a large shipment of cocaine.
