New Turkish airline for Russian tourists to start work in May

A new Turkish airline, which the government is creating to carry tourists from Russia to Turkey’s resorts, will start work in May, AirportHaber reported on Sunday.

The company will be named Southwind and initially operate five Airbus planes, according to the report.

The Sabah newspaper said earlier this month that Turkey planned to take measures to help attract tourists from Russia in 2022, including creating a new airline capable of carrying up to 1 million tourists.

Most tourists to Turkey come from Russia. Turkey hoped to host more than 7 million Russian tourists this year but the situation around Ukraine may prompt Ankara to seek more vacationers from other countries.
