Energomash upgrades engine test bench for Soyuz-5 rocket

Russian Aviaton » Wednesday February 9, 2022 16:21 MSK

NPO Energomash (part of Roscosmos State Corporation) is preparing to conduct comprehensive tests of new information and measurement system at Fire Test Bench No. 1. It is designed to improve the quality of RD-171MV liquid rocket engines firing tests.

The new system will allow automating the processes of collection, storage and processing of information about the tested engines parameters, as well as test bench parameters during the preparation stage and during fire tests.

"The system being created allows recording of several hundreds of parameters. It is built using the latest equipment with high technical and metrological characteristics," said Igor Arbuzov, NPO Energomash Director General. - This will increase the accuracy and quality of recorded parameters during firing tests of RD-171MV engines for further qualitative analysis by design engineers.

The information and measurement system being implemented within the program to modernize NPO Energomash test bench facilities will replace the obsolete slow-moving parameters' measurement complex and the measurement system for fast-moving parameters. The contractor is Proton-PM (part of the integrated structure of NPO Energomash of Roscosmos).

Design work, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the system on the fire test rig No. 1 have already been completed. The system is now entering trial operation, metrological certification activities are underway, later it will be registered in the State Register of Measuring Instruments. After that, comprehensive tests of the new information and measuring system will be conducted.
