Sheremetyevo International Airport summed up the results of production activities for 2021. The number of passengers served increased by 56.4% compared to 2020 and reached 30 million 943 thousand people*. Sheremetyevo entered the top three largest airports in Europe in the reporting year. The number of takeoff and landing operations amounted to 243,362 units, which is 30.6% more than the same period in 2020.
Passenger traffic on international airlines in 2021 increased by 43% and amounted to 9 million 98 thousand passengers, on domestic flights - by 63% and reached 21 million 845 thousand people.
Thanks to the effective joint work of the airport, airlines and ground handling operator Sheremetyevo Handling, SIA demonstrates a high rate of restoration of air traffic, ensuring high punctuality in flight operations. Sheremetyevo became the first airport in Russia to develop and implement a joint decision-making system with base airlines, which allows for prompt service and aircraft turnover, minimizing taxiing time and reducing air carriers' costs.
At the end of 2021, Sheremetyevo Airport was named the leader in punctuality in Europe and the second in the world in the Global Airports category according to the Cirium rating. The departure punctuality rate was 94.76%.
In December, 2,619,000 passengers used the services of Sheremetyevo Airport, which is 105.3% higher than the corresponding period last year. 915,000 passengers were served on international routes, with an increase of 253%. On domestic routes, the figure increased by 68% and reached 1 million 704 thousand passengers. The number of takeoff and landing operations in December amounted to 22,038 units, which is 69% higher than the corresponding figure in 2020.
The most popular foreign destinations in the reporting year were: Antalya, Yerevan, Istanbul, Male and Bishkek; federal - Sochi, Simferopol, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar.
Aeroflot, Rossiya, Nordwind Airlines, Pobeda, Ikar, Royal Flight and Severstal made the largest contribution to the passenger traffic at Sheremetyevo Airport in 2021.
