At the invitation of the Northern Capital Gateway Company, which manages Pulkovo Airport, specialists from the ornithological service of Vnukovo Airport visited the air harbor of St. Petersburg in order to exchange experience in ornithological flight safety.

The Orni system, which is successfully being tested at Pulkovo Airport, was demonstrated to the heads of ornithological flight safety and operation of the Vnukovo airfield. The airfield service, together with the ornithological group of the Northern Capital Air Gate, initiated the development of a system for detecting and taking measures to scare away birds and improve flight safety in the airfield area. Now it is ready for further implementation in the work.

The ornithological flight safety system tracks the flight of up to 100 birds simultaneously at a distance of up to 20 km and records all movements of birds. Based on these data, corrective actions are developed.

Also during the meeting, the issues of creating conditions for scaring away birds at the airfield, methods and techniques for catching and releasing rare birds into the natural environment, the use of birds of prey, the use of television devices to search for nests of meadow birds, methods of combating birds of prey were considered.

The ornithological service of Pulkovo Airport is successfully implementing a set of measures aimed at ensuring flight safety. On an ongoing basis, measures are taken to improve the ornithological situation at the airfield (placement of bird scaring devices, reclamation of wetlands, etc.).
