Aeroflot has completed transition to the domestic Leonardo air ticket booking system. The service developed by the Sirena-Travel company in partnership with Rostec State Corporation has replaced the foreign software which will help build protection against possible incidents and failures caused by sanctions.
Aeroflot’s transition to the new booking system was carried out with the support of the RT-Transcom and Sirena-Travel companies. Considering the data volume of the company as large as Aeroflot the transition has been completed within a very short period of time. On 29 October, passenger check-in began in the Russian booking system.
The developers saw to it that the adaptation of both the airline and passengers went as smoothly as possible. The Leonardo automated booking information system functions based on the “connect and work” principle. Thanks to the built-in modules the system preserves all important information and data about air operations.
The Leonardo system provides sufficient functionality and is suitable for different types of airlines: international, regional, charter, and low-cost. It embraces a host of solutions conforming to IATA standards, and allows to automate the majority of routine processes.
“Following the government’s order Rostec State Corporation has been developing instruments for the Russian carriers’ gradual migration to local software. This measure aims to protect the air transportation industry from unfriendly actions by foreign states and suppliers. The service is adaptable to meet the carriers’ individual requirements, has an enhanced level of information protection, and most importantly, provides smooth operation of Russia’s air transport even in case of foreign information systems shutdowns. The Leonardo system is used by 68 companies, 50 of which are Russian airlines with a total annual passenger traffic of some 45 million passengers,” said Alexander Nazarov, Deputy CEO of Rostec State Corporation.
“Aeroflot’s transition to the Leonardo automated information system for air transportation services has been completed within short terms. The adaptation of certain modules of the system will take some more time, but all tasks once implemented will eventually result in maximum functional options to support the company’s operational and commercial business processes, and most importantly, will offer a wide array of convenient client services for our passengers,” said Anton Matzkevich, Deputy CEO for IT of PJSC “Aeroflot”. “In technical terms, the switch to the new system along with the transition and verification of all databases as well as technological processes was successful thanks to the efficient cooperation of the professional teams of Aeroflot, of Sirena-Travel’s developers, and of the RT-Transcom integrator. Due to the modern infrastructure of Sheremetyevo home airport and the level of preparation for the system integration on the part of the other airports in Aeroflot’s route network, the transition-related technical works did not affect the flight plan on the day: flights operated on schedule, passengers were provided with on-time air transportation and all earlier purchased services . In accordance with the Russian Government Regulation № 1393 dated 08.08.2022, access was completely severed to all services of the previously used U.S.-based Sabre platform.”
