Crews of multi-purpose SU-30SM fighters of the aviation unit of the Western Military District (WMD) intercepted a reconnaissance aircraft of a mock enemy flying towards strategically important objects in the North-West of Russia.
The reconnaissance aircraft was promptly detected and identified by ground-based radio-technical means of air defence of the WMD. A pair of Su-30SM on duty was raised to intercept the intruder in a matter of minutes from one of the airfields in the Leningrad region.
Having occupied the specified search area, the fighter crews found the target and worked out actions for the forced landing of a mock enemy aircraft at the airfield.
The Su-30SM fighter is equipped with a modern control system, the target detection range reaches 140 km, the combat range is 1.5 thousand km. The aircraft is capable of simultaneously escorting up to 15 air targets, choosing priority ones and firing at 4 of them.
