At the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region, during the anti-terrorist exercise of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states Peace Mission - 2021, the crews of Mi-8 military transport helicopters of the Central Military District (CMD) will set up mine-explosive barriers from the air in the designated lines on the flanks of the enemy defence, dropping more than 100 mines.
During one of the tactical episodes, a mobile barrage squad on Mi-8 helicopters will carry out aerial mining of the flanks of the mock enemy with anti-tank and anti-personnel mines. The length of mine-explosive strips will be up to one kilometer. To set up minefields, pilots use VSM-1 helicopter mining systems and will drop more than 100 mines from a height of about 30 meters. The mine-explosive barriers set up by Russian pilots will limit the movement of the mock enemy from the flanks, will allow to lure him into a killing zone and destroy. The exercise of the armed forces of the SCO countries Peace Mission-2021 is held under the leadership of the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, in the Orenburg region from September 20 to 24.
The main objectives of the exercise are: improving the coordination of the management bodies of the coalition group of troops in the preparation and conduct of a joint anti-terrorist operation, exchanging experience in countering terrorism, as well as mastering the basic tactical techniques and methods of action of the forces (troops) under the leadership of the joint military administration body.
The joint anti-terrorist exercises of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Peace Mission have been held every two years since the organization was established in 2001. The first of them took place in August 2003 on the territory of Kazakhstan and China.
