The decision of the Government of the Russian Federation to approve Roscosmos proposal to negotiate the supply of Russian RD-181M engines produced by NPO Energomash (part of Roscosmos) for the Orbital Sciences LLC (USA) will allow to continue mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the field of rocket propulsion despite the existing sanctions. The United States is getting reliable and unsurpassed rocket engines for its launch vehicles.
RD-181 engines have been supplied to the United States since 2015; this is the second export engine modification produced by NPO Energomash, supplied for American carrier rockets. Using the Russian engines, the American Antares rocket delivers cargo to the International Space Station. All launches in the USA using the RD-180 and RD-181 engines have been successful.
The new RD-181M engine permitted for export is the next stage of the RD-181 development. Its analogue RD-191M used in Russian launch vehicles will be implemented in the Angara-A5P heavy space rocket crewed version.
NPO Energomash’ partners can be sure in the quality and reliability of Russian engines. Roscosmos and NPO Energomash confirm their reputation as a reliable supplier of high-quality high-tech products.
