Court sentenced pilot of An-2 plane which hard landing in Russia’s Yakutia in the summer of 2019

A court has sentenced a pilot of the Antonov An-2  plane which hard landed in Russia’s Yakutia in the summer of 2019 to 4 years in penal colony settlement, the Investigative Committee’s press service has told RAPSI.

The defedant is found guilty of violation of air traffic safety rules and aircraft steering rules that entailed death of two and more people through negligence.

The court found that he had not allowing to operate  the plane and a right to people carrying.

According to investigators, on August 30, 2019, the aircraft commander let collision with mountains. It was proved that the pilot failed to take into account anabatic and katabatic winds in the mountains and miscounted safe altitude. As a result, two passengers died, another three were injured.
