Vnukovo International Airport entered top ten European airports by passenger traffic according ACI Europe rating

The latest figures published by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) indicate a deepening crisis in the aviation industry. The global aviation industry was among the sectors of the economy that were hit hardest by the restrictive measures against the spread of coronavirus infection.

According to ACI Europe, in the first quarter of this year, passenger traffic at the airports of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom decreased by 88% compared to the same period in 2019. Against this disappointing background, due to the relatively better dynamics in the domestic markets, the airports of Russia and Turkey are significantly ahead of their “colleagues.” Passenger traffic in these countries decreased by 54.8% compared to 2019.

Despite all the difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Vnukovo International Airport is taking all possible measures to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers. The work of the Vnukovo team in these difficult conditions for the industry has been appreciated. According to the results of the first quarter of 2021, the air harbor entered the top ten busiest airports in Europe in the ACI Europe rating, ahead of major European hubs such as Frankfurt and Paris.

In 2020, Vnukovo International Airport handled 12 million 565 thousand passengers. Considering the problematic epidemiological situation that has developed worldwide due to the spread of coronavirus infection and the cautious forecasts of experts, and the gradual resumption of flights with other countries, higher passenger traffic figures are expected at Vnukovo airport in 2021.
