In February 2021, Progress Rocket and Space Center (Samara, part of Roscosmos) completed welding the first stage oxidizer half-tank assembly for the experimental Soyuz-5 perspective launch vehicle.
Structurally, the half-tank consists of a lower bottom, four cylindrical shells with a diameter of 4,100 mm and a technological shell. This assembly is necessary to confirm the ‘O’ tank lower part strength characteristics. The tests will confirm the characteristics of the design documentation.
Currently, the specialists of the testing section of the aggregate-welding-assembly shop are preparing the Soyuz-5 half-tank for strength and tightness tests.
