Russian Space Systems holding developed universal integrated hardware for perspective satellites

Specialists of the Russian Space Systems holding (RSS, part of Roscosmos) have developed an integrated decoder for command, program and telemetry information as part of the work to create unified onboard equipment for perspective spacecraft. The universal device will ensure high quality and stability of control commands from the ground segment to the spacecraft onboard complex and transmission of information about the satellite status back to the Earth.

The decoder combines the functions of onboard processing assemblies for various command, program and telemetric information in one microcircuit. The device is a part of the command and measurement system increasing its reliability of spacecraft control, relaying the current navigation parameters and aggregating telemetry information.

Vitaly Kraskov, deputy head of the department for creating onboard instrumentation and control systems: ‘The decoder is the embodiment of a number of high-tech RSS developments. It is based on a unique microcircuit with built-in algorithms for error-correcting coding and decoding of command-program, telemetric information and backup of critical programs, which guarantees protection against unforeseen failures of satellite control equipment.’

This development is the next step to create an integrated onboard complex of command and information systems, combining command-measuring and computing functions, processing telemetric information, providing secure control and backup of critical functions of the on-board control complex.

Integration solutions and equipment unification in the near future will enable mass producing reliable onboard systems, cost cutting and significantly accelerating the production of satellites, scale the onboard equipment for a specific type of spacecraft - from small communication and scientific satellites to complex multifunctional devices. Prospective RSS developments in this direction will ensure the maximum durability and stability of satellite constellations for various purposes, which will trigger an increase in the quality of navigation, digital television, telephony and the Internet services.
