The Russian Federation to carry out an observation flight over the territory of Germany

As stated by the Chief of the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center Sergey Ryzhkov, the Russian Federation plans to perform an observation flight on a Russian TU-154M LK-1 observation plane over the territory of Germany in the period from 10 to 13 August 2020 as part of the implementation of the International Treaty on Open skies.

Observation flight over Germany will be carried out in the period from 10 to 14 August from the Open Sky Cologne Bonn Airport. The maximum flight range will be 1300 kilometers.

The Russian surveillance aircraft will fly along the route agreed with the observed party, and German specialists on board will monitor the use of surveillance equipment and compliance with the provisions stipulated by the Agreement.

Observation flights within the framework of the treaty are carried out in order to promote greater openness and transparency in the military activities of the participating States, as well as to enhance security through strengthening confidence-building measures.
