Combat crews of army aviation of the Leningrad air force and air defence army of the Western MD carried out bomb and missile strikes at the positions of a mock enemy. This reported by Russian Defence Ministry press service.

As part of the tactical flight exercise, the crews of a separate helicopter regiment flew from the Pushkin operational airfield to the Kingisepp range in the Leningrad region and accomplished a combat training task on destroying materiel and personnel of an attacking “enemy”. Some helicopters flew to the designated area organized in flights and some flew separately at an extremely low altitude of up to 30 m, rapidly climbing to attack targets at the height of 300 m with a pitch of up to 15 degrees. After the climb, the helicopters carried out a shallow dive with a turn away from the targets to the side, returning to an extremely low altitude.

The S-8 unguided missiles and the GSH-30 30-mm aircraft automatic guns were employed. The ASO-2B heat traps were launched from the on-board aircraft defense systems in order to create dummy targets.

Moreover, during the drill, the crews accomplished a combat training task on delivering cargo and ammunition to the air base from operational airfields.

The Mi-8MTSh multi-purpose helicopters and the Mi-35 helicopter gunships were involved in the drill.
