On the 22nd of May Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, and Dmitriy Makhonin, Head of Perm region, attended the out-of-town test center of JSC UEC-Perm Engines (incorporated into United Engine Corporation of State Corporation Rostec) in Novye Lyady. The Federal Minister has been shown with the new shop to prepare engines for the tests and new universal adapter test stand for PD-14 and PS-90A engines.

The up-to-date adapter stand is used to test civil aircraft engines – PS-90A and PD-14. Besides, currently new test facilities are being designed for high-thrust PD-35 engines: altogether 8 new test stands are planned to be erected.

Investments for bringing this project to life will be in the order of 26 billion rubles. At the end of 2022 there will be the commissioning of the first three test rigs: for core, compressors and combustor tests, in 2023 – of three more, including Sea Level test stands and the remaining will be brought into service in 2024. The serial production of the engine shall start in 2028.

“Development and production engines for civil aviation: PD-14, PS-90A, PD-35 and PD-8 - will be tested here. We have decided it from the start to design the structure to withstand of up to 50 tons. This will be the most state-of-the-art test center for the aircraft engines in Europe”, claimed Denis Manturov.

Sergey Popov, Managing Director of JSC UEC-Perm Engines made the point that one of the outcomes of the visit has become a strategic decision that the next year will kick off the financing of the construction project for test stands of engines large in size. “Works on PD-35 are at active phase at the moment. The detailed design has already been developed, the technical design of the demonstrator engine is being under the development and the production of the demonstrator core has been initiated”.

Furthermore, Denis Manturov and the top managers of UEC companies in Perm have discussed the current situation with the engine manufacture for Russian MC-21. Particularly, what it involved was the steps which would allow reduction of the project dependence on foreign vendors.

The maiden flight of MC-21 powered by Perm engines will take place this year. Irkutsk Aviation Plant has already started preparing the flight. Actually at Perm Engines production there are two more PD-14 engines to equip the second MC-21 airliner, and they will be supplied to the plant by the end of the year.
