This marks the first time paratroopers have ever jumped from this height. The airdrop was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 90th anniversary of the Russian Airborne Forces.

The Russian Defence Ministry has posted unique footage of a paratrooper airdrop operation near Franz Josef Land, a Russian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, performed at a record 10,000 metre altitude.

In the video, the fully-equipped members of the airborne forces are seen jumping out of the aircraft into the clouds below them. The camera then captures their successful landing on the snowy crust somewhere in the Russian Arctic region.

According to the Deputy Defence Minister quoted by the Zvezda channel the airdrop was a trial for new parachutes, navigation systems as well as other gear necessary for the Arctic conditions.
