The Soyuz-ST-A launch vehicle with the Fregat-M upper stage carrying the CSO-2 spacecraft was successfully launched from the Guiana Space Center on December 28, 2020, at 16:42:07 UTC. The launch came as part of the Arianespace VS25 launch campaign, for the National Center for Space Studies (CNES) and the Directorate General for Armaments on behalf of the French Ministry of Defense.
8 minutes 49 seconds after the liftoff, the head unit consisting of the upper stage and the spacecraft routinely separated from the third stage of the launch vehicle and Fregat-M carried on to inject CSO-2 spacecraft into the target orbit. Its separation will take place 59 minutes and 37 seconds after the liftoff, at 17:41 UTC.
Roscosmos is responsible for the Soyuz program in the Guiana Space Center on behalf of Russia, as well as coordinates work with the national rocket and space industry enterprises involved in the program. At the same time, Glavkosmos (part of Roscosmos) acts as the main contract integrator of Russian cooperation enterprises in this project providing interaction with Arianespace.
