In accordance with the combat training plan, the Pacific Fleet's fighter aircraft were trained in Kamchatka, during which tasks to intercept a conditional violator of Russian airspace were worked out in the stratosphere. The training was one of the stages of improving piloting skills necessary for carrying out air defense combat duty.
According to the training scenario, the "intruder" was a MiG-31 fighter of a separate mixed aviation regiment of troops and forces in the north-east of Russia, which, having reached supersonic speed, at an altitude of about 20 thousand meters, imitated infiltration into Russian airspace.
Another high-altitude MiG-31 interceptor was raised to intercept the target. To complicate the task, the crew was assigned the task of searching for the enemy independently without involving ground - based air defense systems. After detecting the "intruder" and taking aim at the target, the pilots conducted electronic launches of long-range air-to-air missiles. According to objective control, the target was successfully hit.
In total, during the flight shift, MIG-31 aircraft of the naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet performed 4 flights to the stratosphere.
