Sheremetyevo International Airport has prepared infrastructure to service international airline passengers with electronic boarding passes. Earlier, this service became available for domestic flights, which allowed passengers to save time, and avoid printing boarding passes at the airport, simplified and sped up the procedure of going through departure formalities.
An electronic boarding pass is generated when checking in for a flight on an airline website or in an airline mobile application. After such generation, a passenger can receive the boarding pass with a bar code to their mobile device. If necessary, an electronic boarding pass can be printed on reprinters at Sheremetyevo Airport.
When going through border control, the bar code on the pass is scanned with special equipment in passport control booths, which can be spotted by information stands. Then, the passenger will proceed to the secure zone and show the electronic boarding pass at the aircraft boarding gate.
Airlines have been notified of the launch of the service to accommodate passengers of international flights with electronic boarding passes.
The procedure is carried out at Sheremetyevo Airport in accordance with Order No. 7 of the Russian Federation Ministry of Transportation, dated January 14, 2019.
Passengers may check in for their flights online or through the check-in counters or self-service kiosks at the airport. To check in, a passenger needs to have an airline ticket and passport on hand. In case of an e-ticket, only the passport will be needed.
