On May 29 there was a spacewalk under the Russian program. EVA-46 has been successfully completed by Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Alexei Ovchinin.
All the main tasks have been successfully completed by the Russian crew: within the framework of the Test experiment, exposure units were dismantled and samples were taken in order to evaluate possible micro-damage to the station shell, pressure and deposition monitoring unit was re-oriented, and unused cables and measuring units were dismantled.
Also Oleg Kononenko and Alexei Ovchinin congratulated on the upcoming 85th anniversary their colleague Alexei Leonov, who had made the world’s first spacewalk. The Russian crew took out into the open space a picture of the legendary cosmonaut, which upon their return to Earth will be presented to the hero of the day.
The time the crew of the Russian Segment of the International Space Station stayed in open space was 6 hours 1 minute. For Oleg Kononenko it was already his fifth spacewalk, while Alexei Ovchinin worked on the outer surface of the station for the first time.
The work of the cosmonauts outside the ISS was broadcast live on the official web site of Roscosmos.
