The launches of guided missiles at air targets were carried out by a fighter air squadron of the Baltic Fleet air base. Within the planned flights, pilots detected and eliminated the simulated enemy’s aircraft using on-board weapons both individually and in a pair. The SAB-250 flare bombs were used as aerial targets and were engaged in the sky by the Su-24 short-range bomber. Combat firings were practised by pilots both by day and at night.
Training flights and launches were conducted in a clearly designated area – above the sea range of the Baltic Fleet. During the shooting drills, the sea range area was announced to be temporarily dangerous for aircraft and ships.
More than 10 aircraft were involved in the combat training.
