Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with Progress MS-09 cargo spacecraft successfully launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome

On 10 July 2018, at 12:51AM Moscow Time, the Baikonur cosmodrome saw the latest successful launch of Soyuz-2.1a space rocket bound for the International Space Station (ISS). Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket was used to put the Progress MS-09 cargo spacecraft into the low earth orbit.

Following the spacecraft’s initial drop from the third stage of the carrier rocket, the cargo spacecraft began its flight to the ISS.

It is planned that the cargo spacecraft’s approach to the station and its berthing to the Pirs docking compartment of the Russian segment of the ISS will be done automatically, under the guidance of the specialists of the Chief Operating Control Group of the Russian segment of the ISS working at the Mission Control Center and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokopyev.

Progress MS-09 will deliver to the International Space Station over two tons of various cargo, including fuel, air, equipment for maintaining the station in working order, care packages and crew life support instruments.
