Platov International Airpoirt served a wide-body aircraft Boeing 777-300ER (ER - Extended Range) for the first time – it was the aircraft of Rossiya Airlines. The liner arrived as a FV4008 flight from Saint-Petersburg with participants of the main sports event of the year onboard.

The aircraft is designed with a capacity of 21 business class passengers and 436 economy class passengers. The honorable flight was met by a delegation of the airport’s representatives and media headed by the Rostov-on-Don governor Vasily Golubev. Boeing 777-300ER is the first aircraft of its class, currently the largest one served in the history of Platov International Airport. According to the tradition, the aircraft of Rossiya Airlines was met with a water gate.

We should add that Boeing 777 was the indicator aircraft when designing Platov Airport. In addition to the construction of a new 3600 * 45 m reinforced concrete runway, reinforced apron cover and wider taxiways that allow aircrafts with wider wingspans and main landing gear racks to move safely, the airport was equipped with all the necessary machinery, and the personnel accomplished special training on the reception and release of aircrafts of this type.

Platov International Airport is the largest infrastructure project of the Rostov region. The airport complex was built in Aksai district, 4 km to the north from Grushevskaya village. The new airport of this level is built «from the scratch» for the first time in the post-Soviet history of the country, replaced the existing one, which is located too close to the urban development. The project for the construction of the new airport complex in Rostov-on-Don was implemented within the framework of the Federal Program «Development of the Transport System of Russia (2010-2020)»  and the Program for the preparation and hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in the Russian Federation.
