Within the control check for the winter training period at the Engels airfield, long-range aircraft crews carried out formation flights, fulfilled air refuelling and passed the class qualification standards.
The events were supervised by Lieutenant-General Sergey Kobylash, the Long-Range Aviation Commander.
During the events, the results of the long-range aircraft planned sorties over the world ocean neutral waters in the winter period were summed up. In total, five sorties were carried out during this period, made by the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers.
The sorties were laid over the water areas of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, Japan, East China, Black, Barents, Norwegian, Northern, Bering and Okhotsk seas. For the first time, the Biak aerodrome in the Republic of Indonesia was used for the Tu-95MS sorties.
