Sheremetyevo handled over 74 thousand tonnes of cargo and mail in the first quarter of 2018

Sheremetyevo International Airport summarized the results of cargo handling activities for the first quarter of 2018. The airport handled about 65,000 tonnes of cargo in the first three months of 2018, it is 6.9% more compared with the same period in 2017, the volume of mail increased by 20% up to 9,000 tonnes*.

The increase of cargo volume was due to the growth in international cargo turnover that was up by 12.5% compared with the same period in 2017. At the same time, domestic cargo traffic for 3 months of 2018 saw a decrease (- 8.67%) compared to the same period in 2017.

Sustained growth of cargo on international flights to Sheremetyevo in the first quarter of 2018 was recorded on imports (+ 22.5% against the same period in 2017). Transfer and exports changed insignificantly.

As for the cargo traffic on domestic flights in the first quarter of 2018, it showed increase in imports (+4.1%) but decreased in transfer (-12.8%) and exports (-13.6) compared with the same period in 2017.

The most popular international routes, accounting for more than 50% of the total freight traffic, were China, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands, South Korea and Singapore.

The largest increase in outbound and transit freight traffic in the first quarter of 2018 was marked on the routes to Liege (LGG), Leipzig (LEJ), Chengdu (CTU) and Chicago (ORD). The most impressive growth of inbound and transit freight traffic was seen on the routes from Tokyo (NRT), Chengdu (CTU), Hanoi (HAN) and Chongqing (CKG).

As for the cargo flow on the domestic flights, the Far East (Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk) remained the busiest directions in the first quarter of 2018.

*The volume of cargo handled by Sheremetyevo’s “Moscow Cargo” terminal during the first quarter of 2018 amounted 42 156 tonnes and 8 251 tonnes of mail.
