Pulkovo Airport call names Best Airlines of 2017

Northern Capital Gateway, the operator of St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, announces the best airlines of 2017. The winners in 12 nominations were revealed at the annual LED Together ceremony on January 25, 2017. The airlines demonstrated best performance results at Pulkovo Airport throughout the year.

Vladimir Yakushev, Chief Executive Officer of Northern Capital Gateway LLC: “In 2017, Pulkovo Airport marked a new historic record for passenger traffic, having welcomed over 16.1 million people. With the figure increasing by 21.6% year-on-year, St. Petersburg airport became one of the market leaders by traffic growth rate. Our close work with the airlines, joint efforts in offering new travel destinations, expanding the route network and enhancing the flight schedule has made this achievement possible. We are grateful for the accomplishments we have come to together in 2017 and excited to reach new goals 2018”.

Rossiya Airlines

(Russia)

Rossiya Airlines, the home base carrier of Pulkovo, increased its passenger traffic at the airport by 800,000 pax. The number of aircraft movements grew by 4,000 operations. The route network from St. Petersburg included 49 domestic and foreign destinations.

Fastest Growing Carrier 100,000-500,000 pax

Nordavia

(Russia)

Nordavia’s traffic at Pulkovo grew by 221,000 pax in 2017. The number of take-offs/landings increased by 2,000 operations. The route network from St. Petersburg included 19 destinations.

Fastest Growing Carrier 10,000-100,000pax

Finnair

(Finland)

In 2017, the airline welcomed 29,000 more passengers than a year before. The number of runway movements grew by 420 operations. Throughout the year the carrier performed up to 3 daily flights from Pulkovo.

Best Developing International Carrier

KLM

(Netherlands)

In 2017, KLM traffic at Pulkovo grew by 69,000 pax, the number of take-offs/landings increased by 500 operations. During the year, the airline performed up to 2 daily flights from Pulkovo to Schiphol Airport, offering convenient connections to other destinations in Europe, North America and Africa.

Best Developing CIS Carrier

Air Astana (Kazakhstan)

In 2017, Kazakhstan’s national carrier increased its traffic at Pulkovo by 37,000 pax, the number of air traffic movements grew by 350 operations.

Best Developing Domestic Carrier

Pobeda

(Russia)

In 2017, the Russian low-cost airline has significantly expanded its present in St. Petersburg market. The route network from Pulkovo included 11 destinations. The airline increased its traffic through LED by 220,000 pax, while the number of aircraft movements grew by 1,100 operations.

Best Developing New Destination

Budapest, Wizz Air (Hungary)

On August 27, 2017, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe Wizz Air launched scheduled flights between Budapest and St. Petersburg. In slightly more than four months of flight operations between the two cities, the carrier welcomed aboard over 14,000 pax. In 2017, Wizz Air performed 90 ATM at LED and demonstrated a high load factor on the route.

Best Contribution to Outbound Tourism Development

Nordwind Airlines

(Russia)

With its extensive flight program from St. Petersburg, Nordwind serviced over 428,000 pax and performed over 2,300 aircraft movements at Pulkovo. The carrier’s route network from St. Petersburg offered flights to 15 domestic and international destinations throughout the year.

Best Contribution to Inbound Tourism Development

Emirates

(UAE)

The airline connects St. Petersburg to a large number of points in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania, offering extensive travel possibilities between LED and points all over the world via one stop in Dubai. In 2017, the carrier welcomed 151,000 pax and performed 670 aircraft movements in St. Petersburg, operating wide-body B777 aircraft.

Turkish Airlines

(Turkey)

Successful marketing strategy of Turkish Airlines played a significant role in stimulating passenger demand for the carrier’s flights connecting St. Petersburg to the countries in Middle East, Africa, Asia, North and South America. In 2017, the airline provided services to over 160,000 pax and performed over 1,000 aircraft movements at Pulkovo. The carrier organized many successful promotional events together with the airport.

S7 Airlines

(Russia)

S7 Airlines continues to expand its presence in St. Petersburg market. In 2017, the airline’s traffic at Pulkovo grew by 86,000 pax, the number of take-offs/ladings grew by 1,000 operations year-on-year. In 2017, S7 Airlines increase from 2 to 12 the number of destinations with scheduled service from LED, including domestic and international routes.

Expectation of 2018

Germania

(Germany)

On April 26, 2018, the airline will launch scheduled service from Pulkovo Airport to St. Petersburg twin city Dresden. It will become the sixth German destination in Pulkovo route network. The flights will be performed twice-weekly offering convenient connections to points in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Northern Capital Gateway holds the annual LED Together Awards in the end of January, celebrating the success of airlines from the preceding year. The ceremony traditionally brings together professionals from aviation and various business industries. Over one hundred guests attended the 7th LED Together gathering on January 25, 2018.

All winners received awards from Pulkovo Airport and gifts from the partners of the event, including: Four Seasons Lion Palace St. Petersburg; online search engine for flights Aviasales; an online social network for tourists and travelers TourOut.RU; online entertainment guide to St. Petersburg Peterburg2.RU; online newspaper NEVA.TODAY; wine trading company Simple; WAGNER group of car dealerships of Mercedes-Benz in St. Petersburg; a world renown brand Givenchy; and a jewelry production company Russkiye Samotsvety.

In 2017, Pulkovo Airport increased passenger traffic by 21.6% YOY to 16.1 mio people. This was a record in the history of St. Petersburg’s airport. Over the year, the route network of Pulkovo included 155 domestic and foreign destinations, with scheduled flights operated by 72 airlines. In 2017, Pulkovo airport celebrated its 85-year anniversary.
