Northern Fleet Marines start parachute jumps

Reconnaissance and assault battalions of the Marines as well as special units of the Northern Fleet Coastal Troops have started practical parachute jumps. On the first day they performed more than 100 jumps.

The drills involved both experienced and young paratroopers. They jumped from Mi-8 helicopters in the Murmansk region during daylight hours.

In the airborne training process, newcomers used parachutes of the conventional D-10 dome system.

Special subunits jumped with Arbalet-2 parachutes and practised landing on limited areas from high altitudes.

In course of airborne drills, Marines carry out airborne assaults in full combat layout with standard weapons. After landing, they refine circular defence skills in the landing area.

Last year, the Northern Fleet carried out about 5,000 parachute jumps.
