Helicopter pilots train instrument flying, Baltic Fleet

The Ka-27 helicopters, the Baltic Fleet Air Force, are carrying out control drills on instrument flying.

The Ka-27PL ASW and KA-27PS SAR helicopters are practising instrument flying. Special curtains cover the cockpit so that the flight can be performed only by means of flight instruments.

Crews fly along the assigned routes, relying on board equipment. When approaching for landing, pilots use special systems and alternative means.

The main task of the drills is to test skills of operating helicopters in difficult weather conditions and poor visibility.
