Aircraft of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations continue a search operation in the Sea of Japan, from where a SOS signal was received from the Vostok fishing vessel on 25 January. The team deployed for the search includes Beriyev Be-200ChS amphibious jets and a Mi Mil-8 helicopter. The decision to continue the search using aircraft was made by the senior officials of the Emergency ministry.
“Weather specialists say that the weather is going to be favorable for the next three days,” head of the Crisis Management Center of the Emergency Ministry’s Siberian Regional Center Ivan Sergeyev. “We are going to keep on searching as long as the weather is good for that.”
Psychologists go on tending to relatives of the Vostok’s sailors and fishermen round the clock.
In a week, the aircraft have examined some 34,500 sq. km and ships – 13,600 sq. km. Ships of the Federal Fishing Agency are also running within the search area. The search party currently includes 74 people, including rescuers of the Emergency Ministry’s Far Eastern SAR Unit.
