At December 6, 2018 five Komiaviatrans airline ERJ-145, which were previously in the Bermuda registry, were registered in the state register of civil aircraft of the Russian Federation (lessor – Irish "GTL-Avia. Limited"). This said in Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation (Rosaviatsiya) statement.

The Russian authorities have long been trying to convince local airlines to re-register their aircraft in the national registry. Currently, domestic airlines operate more than 800 foreign-made aircraft registered in foreign offshore jurisdictions. The majority of Russia-based commercial aircraft are currently registered in Bermuda or Ireland.

"From the point of view of international law, these aircraft cannot be considered part of Russian aviation. According to article 17 of the Convention on international civil aviation "aircraft have the nationality of the state in which they are registered". Thus, 95% of the aircraft operated by Russian airlines have foreign nationality, mainly the United Kingdom of Great Britain (Bermuda) and Ireland," Rosaviatsia said.

At the same time, the presence of a "foreign registration" is not a guarantee that the control of aircraft airworthiness will be carried out at the proper level.
