Su-24M and Su-24MR short-range bombers of an air regiment stationed in Volgograd region, practised surveillance of an area along the Volga River to locate a hostile convoy.

Su-24MR surveillance aircraft transmitted location data to squadron commander who took decision to engage the enemy by aircraft armament.

Su-24M bombers engaged ground targets simulating light-armored vehicles, evaded attacks of fighter jets and landed on and unfamiliar airfield.

The flights took place at altitudes from 200 m to 1,000 m at speeds of up to 1,000 kmph. During the exercises, the crews made 20 sorties, and about 100 launches of unguided missiles and bombs.

Flight, engineering personnel, CSS and signal specialists were also involved in the drills.
