By order of RSC Energia, Research & Development Production Enterprise Zvezda Named After Academician G.I.Severin has built a prototype crew seat for crew transportation spacecraft Federatsiya.

The fundamental distinction of the new design consists in its being universal from the standpoint of anthropometry. While the Kazbek-type seats that are currently used onboard Soyuz spacecraft require casting individually-shaped seat inserts, the new seat can be adjusted to fit the individual cosmonaut, even in flight.

The prototype new seat is called Cheget and is designed to Corporation’s specifications. A series of experiments involving specialists from design and flight-testing department of RSC Energia will be conducted to evaluate its ergonomic properties.

At present, R&D PE Zvezda has started building seat models for full-scale testing.
