Rescuers of the Emergency Ministry’s Magadan branch of the Far Eastern Regional SAR Unit and pilots of the Khabarovsk Air Rescue Center have held a rappelling drill.

The rescuers had to rappel in freezing temperatures and in urban area.

Before taking off, all the rescuers and pilots had had necessary briefing, checked their gears, safety lines and carabiners.

Such drills are held several times a year. The Far East rescuers have had to use rappelling many times to pick up people from breakaway ice floes, to put out wildfires, to evacuate people from flooded areas and to rescue the injured in road accidents.

20 rescuers took part in the drill and made some 100 descents.
