Western MD fighters intercepted a ‘captured’ aircraft in course of the Zapad 2017 strategic exercise

Air defence and aviation units of the Western MD intercepted a ‘captured’ airplane in course of the Zapad 2017 Russian-Belarusian strategic exercise.

According to the scenario, the passenger plane took off from the Moscow region in the eastern direction. However, the aircraft changed its direction and started moving in the western direction. The aircraft was detected and tracked by ground air defence systems of the Western MD.

A pair of Su-27 fighters took off and tracked the aircraft.
