In July 2017 Sheremetyevo International Airport was recognized for the second month in a row as the most dynamic airport of Europe among airports with more than 25 million passengers served a year, Airports Council International (ACI) said. Passenger traffic in Sheremetyevo increased by 22.9%. Meanwhile passenger traffic in European airports grew on average by 9.6%, according to ACI-Europe.
Sheremetyevo International Airport summarized the results of its activities* in August and the eight months of 2017. The number of served passengers grew by 18.8% since the beginning of the year as compared with the same period in 2016, and reached 26,506,000 air passengers.
The passenger volume on international flights in January-August grew by 19.3% and amounted to 14,740,000 passengers, and the passenger volume on domestic flights increased by 18.2% to 11,766,000 passengers.
The number of passengers served in August 2017 grew by 19.6% year on year and amounted to 4,141,000 people. International passenger traffic in August grew by 18.3% and amounted to 2,343,500 passengers; domestic passenger traffic grew by 21.3% and amounted to 1,797,500 air passengers.
International destinations in most demand in January-August were Paris, Tel-Aviv, Prague, Beijing, and Shanghai, and the most popular domestic flight destinations were St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Sochi, Ekaterinburg and Krasnodar.
Aeroflot, Nordwind Airlines, Royal Flight, Icarus, Air France and Air Astana contributed the most to the growing number of passengers in the eight months of 2017.
In January-August 2017 Sheremetyevo Airport carried out 200,414 takeoffs and landings, which is 11.9% more than over the same period last year. The number of takeoffs and landings in August grew by 15.3% to 28,222.
In August 2017 Sheremetyevo ranked No. 1 in Europe and No. 2 in the world in terms of punctuality of flights among major airports, according to Flightstats, a US-based information and statistics company. Sheremetyevo Airport serves 88.01% of all flights on time.
