Almost 3,000 settlements protected Russian Emergencies Ministry’s ground forces and aircraft from fires this year

Almost 3,000 settlements, populated by more than 8 million people have been protected by the Emergencies Ministry’s ground forces and aircraft since beginning of 2017.

Joint actions of ground forces and aircraft prevented spread of fires onto almost 3,000 settlements, populated by more than 7.7 million people. over the last 24 hours 34 settlements, populated by 17,000 people were protected against fires.

115 aircraft that made 531 flights since the beginning of the firefighting operations are involved into protection of the settlements, businesses, putting out of fires, regrouping of forces in Russia. The aircraft dropped more than 20,000 tons of water in over 2,300 discharges.

Currently, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Beriev Be-200ChS plane is involved into firefighting operation in Yakutia. The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Ilyushin Il-76 plane and 2 Mil Mi-8 helicopters are putting out fires in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. One more Beriev Be-200ChS is operating in Buryatia.

The situation is under constant satellite and air monitoring, development of the most dangers fires is being modelled, UAVs are being actively used. Residential blocks and woods are being patrolled, the people are being kept updated on the situation and steps taken.

Almost 14,000 people and 4,200 units of equipment provided by the Russian Emergency Ministry are involved in protecting settlements, businesses and infrastructure against wildfires.
