Armenian Emergencies Minister David Tonoyan hands departmental awards to Russian pilot crew

The Armenian Emergencies Minister David Tonoyan has handed the departmental awards – Cooperation in the Name of Rescue Medal and Prevention, Aid, Rescue Medal to the pilot crew of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Ilyushin Il-76 plane, which took part in firefighting operation in Armenia. The Minister thanked the Russian pilots, highly praising their professionalism and selflessness.

Thanks to the Russian pilot crew the Khosrov Forest State Reserve was saved from fire. More than 700 tons of water was dropped on fires during the operation.

A major wildfire happened in Khosrov Forest State Reserve in Ararat Region, Armenia on 12 August 2017. Hundreds of hectares of area were engulfed in fire. The Armenian Government issued a request to the Russian Government asking aid to put out the fire. The same day the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s plane, equipped with water discharge equipment took off to Yerevan.
